Super Breakout (Atari Arcade Classic) – An Old Gamer Plays

Super Breakout is a follow-up to the popular Breakout. The original Breakout was conceptualized by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow and built by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. Where Breakout was programmed in discrete logic, so the mainboard of the arcade game was essentially like an Arduino microcontroller. Super Breakout was made when Nolan Bushnell, then chief of Atari, wanted an updated version of the original. The game was developed by Ed Logg, who also went on to develop Centipede, Millipede, and the Gauntlet series. Super Breakout uses an MOS Technologies 6502 microprocessor chip so the arcade ROM can be emulated in MAME. Unlike Breakout which can only be simulated but not emulated.
